A Black Watch tartan throw in deep forest green and navy, the classic dark plaid that looks as much at home on an oatmeal sofa as on a leather armchair. The tartan is printed on a soft plush fabric, so the throw stays light enough to carry from the sofa to the bed, or out to the car for a winter picnic.

Choose the size by where it will live: 101 x 127 cm / 40 x 50 in for a lap or a child's bed, 127 x 152 cm / 50 x 60 in for the sofa, or 152 x 203 cm / 60 x 80 in to cover an adult on the bed or the length of a three-seater.

Machine wash it cold on a gentle cycle and tumble dry on low heat. Skip brushes and bleach.

Why it earns its place

Classic Black Watch

Deep forest green and navy squares with thin black lines, a tartan that suits oak, linen and leather alike.

Three sizes

101 x 127 cm / 40 x 50 in for the lap, 127 x 152 cm / 50 x 60 in for the sofa, 152 x 203 cm / 60 x 80 in for the bed.

Machine washable

A cold, gentle cycle and a low tumble dry, so it gets used every day rather than kept for best.

In your home

Fold it over the arm of the sofa and it is there when the evening turns cold, or leave it at the foot of the bed as an extra layer on winter nights. The smallest size suits a reading chair or a child's bed; the largest covers a double bed or two people on the sofa.

The dark tartan works with oatmeal linen, cognac leather, oak and white walls, and it brings some Christmas colour into the room without a single bauble. Take it out to the car for a cold picnic, then wash it when you get home.

Materials and quality

The throw is a soft plush fabric with the Black Watch tartan printed across it, so the deep green and navy run edge to edge. It is light for its size, which makes it easy to fold, carry and wash at home. You choose between three sizes, from a 101 x 127 cm / 40 x 50 in lap throw to a 152 x 203 cm / 60 x 80 in blanket that covers an adult on the bed.

Care and everyday use

Machine wash it in cold water on a gentle cycle and tumble dry on a low setting, or let it dry over a rack. Do not use bleach or a stiff brush on the surface. Shake it out after drying and fold it loosely over the sofa arm or into a basket.
