The rack is wood, with slatted shelves held between two zigzag, X-shaped side frames. That frame is what lets it fold: open it out and the shelves are ready for shoes, fold it in and it closes up for carrying. There is no back panel and nothing to screw together. Care and everyday use

Wipe the slats with a soft dry cloth, and let wet or muddy shoes dry off before they go on a shelf. Keep the rack away from direct heat sources such as radiators. If it stands on a tiled floor by the door, a mat underneath keeps grit and water away from the bottom tier.
