This hand-woven bamboo pendant light works because of the gaps in the weave. Light comes through the diamond openings in the sides as much as through the bottom, so in a dark room the ceiling picks up a lattice of light. Three shapes share one fitting: a narrow, dramatic tall lantern, the classic rounded barrel, and a wide dome that sits low and spreads the light.

Over a dining table or kitchen island is where this ceiling lamp earns its place, hung low so the weave meets your eye once you sit down. In a hallway the 16 cm tall wide dome leaves headroom for people passing underneath; the tall lantern suits a stairwell. It sits naturally with oak, linen, rattan chairs and white walls.

The shade is woven bamboo on an E27 fitting with a 120 cm adjustable cord, dropped low over a table or shortened at installation for a hallway. The tall lantern is 18 cm wide and 37.5 cm tall (black canopy), the rounded barrel 23 by 26 cm (wood canopy), the wide dome 26 by 16 cm (white canopy). It takes a standard E27 bulb, not included, so you choose the warmth and brightness. Dust along the strands with a soft brush, keep the bamboo dry, and let the bulb cool first.
