Details

These handwoven rattan coasters are woven by hand, which is why the spiral runs slightly uneven and the color shifts from piece to piece. That texture is the reason to pick them over cork: rattan has grain and depth that a cut cork disc does not. The 16 cm is a coaster for a glass or mug; the 20 cm goes under a teapot or small casserole as a trivet.

The small ones live on the dining table or coffee table, under each glass at dinner or under the mug you carry around the house. The larger size belongs in the kitchen as a pot mat or hot pad, under the teapot at breakfast or a casserole dish straight from the oven. Rattan sits easily beside oak, walnut and pale ash, with stoneware, linen napkins and clear glass.

Each piece is natural rattan, round, in 16 cm or 20 cm, and with the same shape in both sizes a coaster and a trivet read as a set. Keep them dry: wipe a spill right away and let the mat air before it goes back in the drawer. Direct heat above 100 C is the limit: a teapot or warm dish is fine, a pan straight off the stove is not.

Handwoven Rattan Coasters, Natural Round Drink and Pot Mats for Dining Table and Kitchen

Why it earns its place

Two sizes, two jobs

The 16 cm is a coaster for a glass or a mug. The 20 cm goes under a teapot or a small casserole as a trivet.

Texture over cork

The woven spiral is slightly uneven and the colour shifts between pieces, which is exactly what a cut cork mat cannot give you.

Natural rattan, round

Plain material and plain shape, so it sits with wood, stoneware and linen without competing for attention.

In your home

The small size lives on the dining table and the coffee table: one under each glass at dinner, one under the mug that follows you around the house. The larger size is for the kitchen, under the teapot at breakfast or under a small casserole carried straight from the oven to the table.

Rattan sits easily next to oak, walnut and pale ash, and with stoneware, linen napkins and clear glass. On a dark table the natural colour lifts the setting; on a light one it adds texture rather than contrast.

Materials and quality

Each piece is woven from natural rattan by hand, which is why the spiral is slightly uneven and the colour shifts from one to the next. That is the point of buying rattan rather than a cut cork disc: you get a surface with grain and depth that a machine does not produce. The round shape is the same in both sizes, so a coaster and a trivet from the same order look like a set.

Care and everyday use

Keep them dry. Wipe a spill with a cloth straight away rather than leaving a wet glass to sit, and let the mat air before it goes back in the drawer. Keep them away from direct heat above 100 C, so a teapot or a warm dish is fine but a pan straight off the hob is not.

Good to know

Which size do I need for a teapot?

The 20 cm, sold as the 8 in option. The 16 cm is sized for a glass or a mug.

Can I put a hot pan straight on it?

It is made for heat up to 100 C: a teapot or a casserole is fine, while a pan straight from the hob is too hot for rattan.

Will they all look identical?

Each one is woven by hand, so the spiral and the colour vary slightly from piece to piece, which is the charm of rattan.
