This rectangular rattan-style storage basket has a bamboo frame and a plastic weave in a rattan pattern, a deliberate pairing. Bamboo makes a light, stiff frame that keeps the sides square when full; plastic gives the rattan look without the fraying and darkening real cane picks up in a damp kitchen. Hand-woven, it wipes clean, so a bruised plum or leaking hand cream comes off with a cloth instead of soaking in.
On the kitchen counter it does fruit and bread and warms up a kitchen that is mostly metal and glass. The smaller size was made to sit inside a standard kitchen drawer as a snack organizer, so packets stop sliding around; the larger sits on an open shelf with the bread.
