Six plain cotton napkins with a soft washed finish and a slightly crinkled texture, the kind you use every day rather than save for guests. They fold neatly on a plate, roll through a napkin ring or sit in a stack by the bread basket.

Each napkin is about 40 x 40 cm / 16 x 16 in, a comfortable size for dinner at the table or on the lap. Choose beige, white, light brown, rust, burgundy, olive green, grey green or dark green, or mix two colours for a relaxed table.

Wash them with similar colours and dry them on the line; the washed texture means they look right without ironing.
