Details

This woven seagrass basket has a base tight enough that a cherry stays in it. A loose wicker base lets small fruit slip through; this one has no gaps, and the sides hold their shape when you lift it loaded. Seagrass is light, so even the larger size carries easily full of towels, and the fiber has the pale, uneven tone of real seagrass.

The S sits in the middle of the kitchen table with apples and citrus, the fruit bowl that stays out all week. The M goes on the counter as a bread basket, or on a bathroom shelf with rolled hand towels, where natural fiber looks best against tile. In a hallway either size holds gloves and scarves. Seagrass pairs with oak, linen and stoneware and softens a very white or very gray kitchen.

Two sizes, S at 34 x 23 cm and M at 37 x 26 cm, both natural seagrass, tone varying piece to piece. Clean spots with a damp cloth and let the basket dry right through; never soak it, since wet seagrass goes soft and can mildew. Line it with cloth or paper for bread, keep it away from sink splashes, the dishwasher and a steamy unventilated bathroom, and the color holds for years.

Woven Seagrass Basket, Natural Wicker Storage for Fruit, Bread and Towels, Kitchen Table and Home Decor, S or M

Why it earns its place

Tight weave

Woven close enough that grapes and cherries stay put, where a loose wicker base lets small fruit slip through.

Two sizes

S at 34 x 23 cm for a table centrepiece with fruit, M at 37 x 26 cm for rolled towels in a bathroom or a loaf on the counter.

Natural seagrass

The pale, uneven tone of real seagrass, which warms up a white kitchen better than a dyed or plastic basket.

Woven Seagrass Basket, Natural Wicker Storage for Fruit, Bread and Towels, Kitchen Table and Home Decor, S or M

In your home

The S sits in the middle of the kitchen table with apples and citrus in it, and it is the one that stays out all week. The M goes on the counter for bread, or on a bathroom shelf holding rolled hand towels, which is where the natural fibre looks best against white tile.

Seagrass pairs with oak, linen and stoneware, and it takes the edge off a very white or very grey kitchen. In a hallway either size takes gloves and scarves. Keep it out of the sink area; a basket that sits in splashes will not stay pale.

Materials and quality

Natural seagrass woven into a basket with a close base and firm sides. The tight weave is what makes it useful for fruit: the base does not have the gaps a loose basket has, so small things do not drop through, and the sides hold their shape when the basket is picked up loaded. Seagrass is light, so even the M is easy to lift with towels in it. The fibre has natural colour variation, which is what makes it look like the real material.

Care and everyday use

Spot clean with a damp cloth and let it dry fully. Do not soak or hose it; wet seagrass goes soft and can mildew if it stays damp. Line it with a cloth or paper if you are putting bread straight in. Keep it away from the dishwasher and out of steamy bathrooms without ventilation, and it will keep its colour for years.

Good to know

Which size for towels?

The M, 37 x 26 cm, is the one sized for towels in a bathroom or bread on a counter. The S suits a fruit centrepiece.

Will small fruit fall through?

No. The weave is tight, so grapes and cherries stay in rather than dropping through the base.

Can it get wet?

Spot clean only and keep it dry. A splash wiped off is fine, but do not leave it damp or soak it.
