Details

This industrial wall sconce is a single-head iron lamp in the old workshop shape: exposed socket, bare arm, no shade. It is built around the bulb, so the bulb you choose is most of the look, and there is no diffuser to yellow. Iron is the right metal for it, heavy enough to feel like a fixture and to take a knock in a hallway.

Either side of the bed, a pair of these retro wall lights replaces bedside lamps and clears the nightstands. In a hallway or on a staircase, spaced along the wall, they light the way without a ceiling fitting. It looks best against brick, dark paint or plain plaster, with black steel, reclaimed wood and leather. A warm filament bulb gives a loft or pub feel; a frosted one suits a spot you pass at eye level.

The body is iron with a standard E27 socket, hardwired and rated for 90-260V, so it connects to the wiring in the wall like any sconce. The bulb is yours to choose: any E27 bulb screws straight in. Switch off and let the bulb cool before touching it, dust the iron with a dry cloth, keep water and sprays away from the socket, and swap bulbs only with the circuit off.

Industrial Wall Sconce, Single-Head Retro Iron Wall Lamp for Bedroom, Hallway and Staircase, E27 Bulb Not Included

Why it earns its place

Bulb sets the look

With no shade, the bulb is most of what you see. A warm filament E27 gives the retro effect; a frosted one calms the glare in a hallway.

Standard E27 socket

Any E27 bulb you already own or can pick up locally screws straight in. The bulb is your choice and is not included.

Iron body

Plain iron arm and socket in the old workshop shape, with no diffuser to yellow and nothing to hide the bulb behind.

In your home

Either side of the bed, a pair of these replaces bedside lamps and frees the tables. In a hallway or on a staircase, one every few metres lights the way without a ceiling fitting. It looks best against brick, dark paint or plain plaster.

Match it to black steel, reclaimed wood and leather. The bulb does the rest: a warm filament for a pub or loft feel, frosted where you walk past it at eye level and do not want to squint. Plan the wiring first, since it is hardwired.

Materials and quality

An iron body with an exposed E27 socket and no shade, which is the whole industrial idea: nothing between you and the bulb. Iron is the right metal for it, heavy enough to feel like a fixture rather than a fitting, and it takes a knock in a hallway without complaint. It is hardwired and rated for 90-260V. The bulb is not included, and given that it is most of the look, that is a decision worth making yourself.

Care and everyday use

Switch it off and let the bulb cool before you touch it. Dust the iron with a dry cloth; keep water and sprays away from the socket. Change bulbs with the circuit off, and give the bulb itself a wipe now and then, since dust dulls an exposed bulb.

Good to know

Is the bulb included?

You choose the bulb: it takes a standard E27 (not included), and choosing it is most of the look.

Does it plug in?

It is hardwired to a cable in the wall, so the iron arm and the bulb are all that show.

Which bulb should I choose?

A warm filament E27 for the retro look, or a frosted E27 if you want less glare, for example on a staircase.
