Mains-powered lightInstallation and care notes: Product Safety and Care

This macaron glass table lamp goes from a warm night light to a cooler working light on one knob, so one lamp covers both ends of the day. The body is glass, which gives the translucent macaron look, on an iron base that keeps it steady when you grab for it in the dark. The bulb is included and the single knob does everything.

On a nightstand or bedside table it goes on warm at night, then switches to a cooler light in the morning for finding socks. It runs from USB, so it shares the phone charger already there, or goes out to the sofa arm or a balcony table on a power bank, wherever there is a USB port. The glass shape suits pale walls, oak and soft pastels.

Three colors: orange, white or cream, in colored glass that looks the same lit or off. Orange adds a spot of color if the room needs one. Unplug it before cleaning and wipe the glass with a soft cloth; spray any cleaner onto the cloth, not the lamp, so nothing runs into the base. The iron base takes a dry cloth. Unplug by the connector, not the cord, and keep it back from the table edge.

Why it earns its place

Warm to cool

Turn the knob from a warm night light to a cooler working light, so one lamp covers both ends of the day.

USB powered

Runs from a USB phone charger, or from a power bank when you want it on a balcony table away from a socket.

Orange, white or cream

Coloured glass that looks like a sweet on the shelf, and holds its colour whether it is lit or off.

In your home

On a bedside table it is the lamp that goes on at night and stays warm, then gets switched to a cooler light in the morning to find socks by. Because it runs from USB, it can share the charger that is already there, and you can move it to the sofa arm or a balcony table on a power bank.

The glass shape suits pale walls, oak and soft pastels, and looks right beside other glass or a white ceramic vase. The orange version is the one to pick if the room needs a spot of colour.

Materials and quality

A glass body on an iron base, with the bulb included and everything controlled from the single knob, so there is no separate switch to hunt for at night. Glass gives it the translucent macaron look, and the iron base keeps it planted so it does not tip when you reach for it in the dark. Running from USB means there is no mains lead to route along the skirting.

Care and everyday use

Unplug it first, then wipe the glass with a soft cloth; put any glass cleaner on the cloth, not on the lamp, so nothing runs into the base. The iron base only needs a dry cloth. Unplug by the connector rather than tugging the lead, and keep the lamp back from the edge of the table.
