Details

This stainless steel taper candle holder has a socket sized for skinny dinner candles rather than standard tapers. In an ordinary holder a slim candle leans on a blob of wax; here it stands straight. The body is stainless steel under a silver plate, so it neither chips nor cracks when knocked over and stays rigid under a tall candle, while the plating gives a bright surface without the cost of solid silver.

On a dining table use one per place setting or a row down the middle, a Nordic row of thin flames instead of one thick one. The slim stem suits white plates, wooden boards and linen napkins. In the living room, a windowsill or side table lets the silver pick up daylight. A few group well, and they let you finally use the boxes of thin tapers sold as dinner candles without wedging them in foil.

The finish is silver over stainless steel; care is a dry cloth. Silver plate tarnishes slowly in air, and a soft cloth every so often brings the shine back. Do not let water sit on it, and never use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, which cut through plating. Once wax has cooled, a fingernail lifts it off; leave the knife in the drawer.

Stainless Steel Taper Candle Holder, Nordic Candlestick for Skinny Candles, Living Room and Dining Table, Silver

Why it earns its place

Made for skinny candles

The socket is sized for slim dinner candles, not standard tapers, so the candle stands straight instead of leaning on a blob of wax.

Silver plated steel

Stainless steel underneath with a silver plate on top, bright without the price of solid silver.

Nordic shape

A single clean stem in silver that goes with pale wood, white ceramics and linen rather than fighting them.

In your home

On a dining table one holder per setting, or a row of them down the middle, is the Nordic way of doing candlelight: several thin flames rather than one thick one. The slim candle and slim stem suit a table laid with white plates, wooden boards and linen napkins.

In the living room it sits on a windowsill or a side table, where the silver picks up daylight. Because it is made for the skinny candle, you can finally use the boxes of thin tapers sold as dinner candles without wedging them in foil. Buy a few and they group well.

Materials and quality

Stainless steel forms the body, and it is silver plated over that. Steel is the part that matters for a candle holder: it does not chip, does not crack when knocked over, and it stays rigid under a tall candle. The plating gives it the bright silver surface. The socket is sized for slim dinner candles specifically, which is why the candle sits straight without wax packed around the base.

Care and everyday use

Wipe with a dry cloth; that is the whole routine. Silver plate will darken slowly in air, so a quick rub with a soft cloth every so often keeps it bright. Avoid water sitting on it and never use abrasive cleaners or scourers, which cut through plating. Let wax cool, then lift it off with a fingernail rather than a knife.

Good to know

Will a standard taper candle fit?

It is sized for slim dinner candles, which is the point of the look; a standard taper is too wide for the socket.

Is it solid silver?

It is stainless steel with silver plating, so it has the look of silver without the softness or the price.

Can I put it in the dishwasher?

Best not. Plated metal and dishwasher detergent do not get on. A dry cloth is all it needs.
